Our integrated curriculum framework at Mudgeeraba has been developed to provide our students with the neccessary skills that will enable them to contribute effectively to the complex, multi-cultural, net-worked society that they will live in. The framework details the competencies for the 21st century that have been described by Stoll, Earle and Fink. Their preferred future envisages 'a world in which young people possess not only the competence and confidence in a broad range of areas but also the tools to adapt to new knowledge as it comes along and the dispostions to function wisely and with civility in a fast-paced and unpredictable World'.

In planning this framework we recognised the value of the body of knowledge that exists in Education Queensland's syllabus documents and undertook to identify recurrent themes that exist in these documents - change, sustainability, humanity and enterprise. Teachers use these recurrent themes as core organisers for their integrated units.

Our curriculum framework is inquiry and research based and encourages teachers and students to work together as co-learners to discover new knowledge and understandings about issues of mutual interest. Included in our framework is a matrix that describes what we want our students to be like, know and do. This matrix based on Stoll's competencies, provides teachers with a resource on which learning landmarks can be developed to describe expected outcomes for students' learning.
